English: Ambassador Joan Clark, a former Director General of the Foreign Service who received the American Foreign Service Association Lifetime Contributions to American Diplomacy Award in 2007, attends an event, hosted by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the United States Foreign Service at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., on May 22, 2014. The modern Foreign Service was created on May 24, 1924, with the passage of the Rogers Act establishing the current merit-based, professional Foreign Service. [State Department photo/ Public Domain]
