English: Gérôme's skills as a draftsman contributed to his ability to impart a strong sense of realism to paintings showing reconstructions of ancient historical events. In this instance, he has carefully delineated two figures who appear in "A Roman Slave Market" (1884), a painting that Henry Walters purchased in 1917 (Walters 37.885).
