From Sign Description:
Polish Air Force MiG-15 Pilot's Flight Suit:
On the morning of March 5, 1953, Lt. Franciszek Jarecki defected from the Polish air force. While leading a patrol of for MiG-15s from his base at Stolp, Poland, Jarecki dropped his extra fuel tanks to lighten his aircraft, broke away from the formation, and dove to below 450 meters (1,500 feet) to elude Soviet air defense radar.
The Soviets had anticipated the possibility of pilots defecting with their aircraft and had established a ready alert interceptor system code-named "Operation Krest." A flight of four "Krest" MiG-15s flown by Soviet pilots tried to intercept the escaping Jarecki. He flew north to the Danish island of Bornholm, where he blieved a large American airbase was located. To his dismay he found only a short temporary airstrip. Jarecki considered continuing on to Copenhagen, but with his fuel supply running low, he decided to land at Bornholm.
Lieutenant Jarecki wore this flight suit during his daring flight to freedom.
