Summary

Description
English: James Abel Hornby, 1861-1944, was born in Springfield, Ontario and came to Calgary, Alberta in 1892 to work as a construction foreman. He later entered business for himself and was responsible for the construction of many city projects including Calgary's first steel bridge over the Elbow River. In 1908 he became an insurance agent with E.A. Lilly Adjustment Agency. He served for 15 years as a city alderman and was affiliated throughout his life with the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. In 1896 he married Annie Isabel MacRae, ?-1927, and they had ten children.
