Summary: Jacob Goodale Lipman (1874-1939) was Professor and Dean of Agriculture and the Director of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) at Rutgers University when he volunteered to testify at the 1925 Scopes anti-evolution trial, where this photograph was taken. Lipman was not allowed to testify on the stand but his statement was entered into the court record. Soon after receiving his Ph.D. from Cornell University, he became a Rutgers professor and the NJAES director. Photograph by Frank Thone.
