Summary

Description
English: Engraving showing the hanging of Union supporter Jacob Harmon and his son, Henry, by the Confederate army in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, on December 17, 1861 at the outbreak of the U.S. Civil War (1861–1865). The Harmons were accused of aiding in the burning of numerous railroad bridges to cut Confederate supply lines a few weeks earlier. This engraving appeared in William "Parson" Brownlow's book, Sketches of the Rise, Progress, and Decline of Secession. Brownlow was confined with the Harmons before their execution.
