Summary

Description
English: Orbit diagram of the hypothetical V1400 Centauri (J1407) system, if J1407b was a massive ringed planet in orbit around the star. The lack of detections of additional eclipses before and after 2007 leaves only eccentric orbits as possible solutions, if J1407b is in orbit around V1400 Centauri. This orbital diagram shows the range of possible J1407b orbits given by Rieder & Kenworthy (2016), who use a semimajor axis a=5.0 AU, eccentricity 0.6-0.7, and pericentric distances 1.5-2.0 AU. J1407b's rings are depicted with a radius of 0.6 AU in this diagram. Gray concentric circles indicate distance from the central star, V1400 Centauri, in units of AU.
