English: Jógvan Fríðriksson is the first bishop of the independent Faroese National Church. The church used to be Danish, but now it is Faroese. This photo was taken at a memorial service in Vágur, Faroe Islands, in memory of the seamen who lost their lives during World War II. The Faroe Islands actually lost more people than Denmark did, even if the islands did not take active part of the war. The sea men were at great risk transporting fish from Iceland to the UK, and many lost their lives. Especially many ships from the village Vágur went missing during the WW2, some of war reasons other by other kinds of accidents. Nine ships went missing from the small village Vágur. The population of the village today (2012) is around 1400.
Føroyskt: Jógvan Fríðriksson er føroyskur bispur. Hann er fyrsti føroyski bispurin yvirhøvur, síðan fólkakirkjan í Føroyum bleiv føroysk. Henda myndin varð tikin við Minnisvarðan í Vági til hátíðarløtu til minnis um teir menn sum lótu lív undir Seinna Heimsbardaga við teimum 9 skipunum úr Vági, sum gingu burtur undir krígnum.
