Inscriptions "Dieses Bild wurde gemacht nach dem ersten berühmten Urbild und der Ähnlichkeit der Pietà, aufbewahrt in der Kirche vom Hl. Kreuz in der Stadt von Rom, das der Hl. Papst Gregor der Große in Auftrag gegeben hat, um gemalt zu werden, gemäß einer Vision, die er gehabt hatte und die ihm vom Himmel gezeigt worden ist".
Notes Ältere Quellen berichten, dass der Hl. Gregor vor einem Bild des leidenden Heilands Ablässe erteilt haben soll.
References Zur Verwendung als Wallfahrtsbildchen, gestaltet nach einer Mosaikikone in der 'Kirche vom Hl. Kreuz von Jerusalem' in Rom (Pilgerkirche), die dort aufgrund seiner Kostbarkeit unzugänglich aufbewahrt wird.
