Summary

Description
English: "Source: ICCT (2019), World Bank (2020b)." "illustrates national differences in air transport demand on the basis of [revenue passenger kilometers (RPK)] and GDP per capita relationships, confirming earlier insights that a higher average GDP is linked to air transport demand. Data is based on bunker fuel use by ICCT (2019) for 105 countries, with the lowest transport demand recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo (23 RPK and a GDP of US$562 per capita per year), and the maximum, more than 45,000 RPK and a GDP of US$76,856 per capita and year in Iceland. It deserves to be mentioned that there are considerable differences in income distribution within countries, and it is likely that a correction of data for income inequality would yield a significantly higher correlation between transport demand and GDP as a proxy of income."
