Text from the British Museum information board: 'Inscribed silver spoons (cigni) - The Hoxne hoard contained 23 spoons with bird-neck handles (cigni). These five examples are all inscribed. Some have personal names such as Aurelius Ursicinus, the most common name in the hoard. Another inscription PEREGRINVS VIVAT ('Peregrinus, may you live') is muddled, because the engraver started at the handle end, then changed his mind and started at the bowl end.
