Summary

Description
English: Indian Pond is a subcircular, moderately steep-walled basin just off the northern edge of Yellowstone Lake in northwestern Wyoming. The water-filled portion ranges from 350 to 430 meters in diameter. It formed about 3,000 years ago from a hydrothermal explosion event. Isotopic dating of charcoal immediately below the explosion deposit indicates the maximum age of Indian Pond is 3,078 to 3,154 years (see Pierce et al., 2007 - Postglacial inflation-deflation cycles, tilting, and faulting in the Yellowstone Caldera based on Yellowstone Lake shorelines. United States Geological Survey Professional Paper 1717: 131-168). Other explosion craters in Yellowstone include Pocket Basin, Mary Bay, and Duck Lake.
