English: Impedance matching in electric fishes. The sea is far more conductive than freshwater, so marine electric fishes generate a high current at low voltage, with many electrocytes in parallel. In freshwater, the higher resistance limits the current, so freshwater electric fishes have electrocytes stacked in series, providing a high voltage.
