Description

Stamp of Italy for occupated areas of the former Hungary-Austrian monarchy - general issues; 1919; definitive stamp of the so-called issue "Michetti II" from 1908 with overprint; portrait of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy with view to left after a painting of Francesco Paolo Michetti (in lateral mirroring) with the coat of arms of Savoy in the upper left corner; print type normal standard; upper inscription in colored characters on white background; no water and sun as background; three lines black overprint "25 / centesimi / di corona"; background without water and sun; stamp postmarked
Excursus to the background: In Italian occupated territories of the former Austrian-Hungarian monarchy was not introduced the "Lire" as new currency, rather the old Austrian "Krone" (= crown = "corona") was kept as circulation currency. Italian money had no validity (with exception of Dalmatia in later time), so that the usable stamps became an overprint according to the nominal value in the local valid currency.
