Summary

Description
English: Interior living space of an iQhugwane (beehive hut) in the Mtonjaneni Zulu Historical Museum, at Mthonjaneni, northern KwaZulu-Natal. Two iziGqiki (singular: isiGqiki, wooden head rest) serving as imiQamelo (singular: umQamelo, pillow) are visible on two amaCansi (sleeping mats, singular: iCansi), often made of iNcume (a rush species). Between the mats is an iVovo (beer filter) placed in an oval-shaped iThunga (milk pail, plural: amaThunga) behind the rounded uKhamba (beer pot). On the right a Zulu man's loin and buttock coverings (isiNene & iBeshu) hang from a wooden frame. Tradition dictates that the woman would sleep on the man's right, i.e. the left side of the photo, and the man may place an invite stick outside the entrance, when she is welcome to enter.
