English: Hunger (1938), sold at China Guardian, Hong Kong; 68 x 67 cm. 26 3/4 x 26 3/8 in. Inscription, per China Guardian: The lost mother and children mourn, crying about hunger and driving away the guests. I shed tears of pity and give a few words of condolence. There was no place to wander as I patrol the roads. Tears fall without words, and the bitterness is overwhelming. All the huts and tombs have fallen, and the mountain has been taken prisoner. When tigers and wolves appear, they drip with saliva. The saddened woman cries out to her son and husband. The smoke of war is everywhere, and the nation has not yet recovered. In April of Wuyin, Huang Shaoqiang wrote about what he saw and heard on the journey to Lingbei.
