His duty is to stickclose by his bag, because one of the best waysof stopping a double steal is to have the thirdbaseman cover the bag and instruct the catcherto hurl the ball to third instead of second, aftermaking a bluff throw at second to draw therunner off third, who has been led to believethe catcher will really throw to second. ManyBig Leaguers are caught by this trick, and itshould be very effectual in the minor leagues
