English: Serving as an Honorable Member of Disability Rights Parliament (Parliament of South Africa). An inaugural Disability Rights Parliament is historic in that it takes place just before the first anniversary of the departure of the father of our nation, Mr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Braam also served as a member of the Commission on Education during the same time. Among the key recommendations made on the five priority areas were: improved access to healthcare by persons with disabilities; addressing the needs of children with disabilities at early childhood development phase; the implementation of plans to enable people with disabilities to access economic opportunities; improved physical access to courts and other justice centers; and a deliberate effort to ensure ownership of land by people with disabilities.
