Portion used

Low resolution?

yes, considerably lower than the original

Purpose of use

to show this controversial image, taken by Hoffman and in 2010 declared a fake, having been doctored by Hoffmann to include Hitler, and then used extensively for Nazi Party propaganda

Replaceable?

there are many other versions of this image, all have the same status; no other image of the Odeonsplatz on that day shows Hitler in the crowd

Other information

The image was taken by Hoffmann on 2 August 1914, but not originally published until 12 March 1932 in a Nazi Party publication. Hoffmann's archives were seized by the United States at the end of World War II and later placed in the National Archives. They are public domain in the US due to being seized Nazi property, but it is unknown if this photograph was among them. The Hoffmann photographic archives are still under copyright in Germany. Because of the uncertainly concerning copyright status and ownership, this image is being uploaded here under NFCC rather then to Commons. The image is currently marketed by Getty Images.
