DescriptionHenry Howard, Earl of Surrey (2) by Hans Holbein the Younger.jpg
English: Portrait of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey. Black and coloured chalks, pen and ink, watercolour on pink-primed paper, 25.1 × 20.1 cm, Royal Collection, Windsor Castle.
This is a drawing of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (1517–47). The inscription "Thomas Earl of Surry, added later, is wrong. Howard was a poet and art lover who enjoyed sitting for portraits: another drawing of him by Holbein survives, as well as an oil portrait. Howard was executed in 1547, convicted of inappropriately using the Royal Arms of England. The arms are seen in a portrait of him by William Scrots.
