English: This painting was exhibited at the Impressionists and Symbolists exhibition of 1891. The sitter is thought to be the dancer Gabrielle, who is represented in other paintings by the artist. The setting may be the garden of Monsieur Forest in Paris, which Toulouse-Lautrec used in other half-length portraits at this period.
