The station was built in "Tudor Style" in 1880 on the line that ran between Polegate and Eridge via Heathfield. There were once several lines and sidings and to the left of the picture there was a branch line that ran to the nearby Lunatic Asylum. The line closed in 1965 but the station building is vitually unchanged and is now a private residence
