English: Portrait of the Saxon Field Marshall-General, 6th Baron Reuss (1649-1697), after a 17th Century painting in castle Greiz in Thuringia, signed by the copyist verso and dated 1911, also with a biography of the sitter, oil on canvas, 140 x 107 cm, framed, (GS) Provenance: The Princes of Reuss, Greiz; Marie Freifrau of Gnagnoni, Princess Reuss (the Princess was the daughter of the last Prince Reuss; her sister Hermine, widowed Princess of Schoenaich-Carolath, was the second wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II). Baron Heinrich VI of Reuss (married first to Baroness Amalie Juliane Reuss, and then to Henriette Amalie Freiin of Friesen), was an important military leader, who excelled in the war against the Turks. He died from wounds incurred at the Battle of Zenta. Before his last battle he cried out to those around him: "It is now, that the honest fighters and praiseworthy ones will die. I will triumph alongside you, or die myself. None shall do even the tiniest amount more than I shall do...".

Jahrhunderts in Schloss Greiz/Thüringen, rückseitig vom Kopisten signiert und auf 1911 datiert sowie biographische Angaben zum Dargestellten, Öl auf Leinwand, 140 x 107 cm , gerahmt, (GS) Provenienz: Fürsten Reuß Å. L., Greiz; I. D. Marie Freifrau von Gnagnoni, Prinzessin Reuß Å. L. (die Prinzessin war die Tochter des letzten Fürsten Reuß Å. L., ihre Schwester Hermine, verwitwete Prinzessin von Schoenaich-Carolath, war die 2. Gemahlin Kaiser Wilhelms II.). Graf Heinrich VI. Reuß, in 1. Ehe mit der Gräfin Amalie Juliane Reuß Å. L., in 2. Ehe mit Henriette Amalie Freiin von Friesen verheiratet, war ein bedeutender Heerführer, der sich in den Kriegen gegen die Türken auszeichnete. Er starb an den Folgen einer Verwundung in der Schlacht von Zenta. Vor seinem letzten Gefecht rief der Graf seiner Umgebung zu: "Es gilt jetzt, dass redlich gefochten und rühmlich gestorben werde. Ich werde mit Euch siegen oder sterben. Keiner soll das geringste mehr thun, als das ich thue...". Prov.: Fürsten und Prinzen Reuss
