DescriptionHeck station site geograph-3802962-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg
English: Site of former Heck station, East Coast Main Line 1992.
View northward from Heck - Pollington Lane, towards York etc.: ex-NER (Doncaster) - Shaftholme Junction - Berwick-upon-Tweed section of the ECML. Heck station was closed to passengers 15/9/58, to goods 29/4/63, but the line remains, albeit since 1983 not running through Selby. There is an active branch to the left here into about four sidings, which serve plants engaged in producing aggregates and concrete blocks and pipes, notably the Plasmor Co, which has its own fleet of wagons and despatches at least one train of 25 wagons a day. (Cf. also SE5921 : Heck railway station (site), Yorkshire). The awful multiple crash at Heck in 2001, caused by a car running off the road onto the railway, did not occur here but just to the north where the M62 crosses.
