Summary
| Description |
English: A docent leads a visitor to the viewing platform within a Paleoseismology pit at Fremont. Various features are marked and annotated on the surface of the pit, which reveals 4000 and 9000 year sand overlays and the Hayward Fault. The fault line is marked with cordage at the leftmost notation seen here. The dark gravel seen ahead is an ancient deposition of nearby Alameda Creek, as are the more recent sand layers. The uppermost foot (30 cm.) of soil is recent fill.
