Summary

Description
English: Haydown Hill and Fosbury Camp from Conholt Hill. We are looking from Conholt Hill towards Haydown Hill which is 254m above sea level. At the top of the hill is the ancient iron-age fort of Fosbury Camp with its earth ramparts and field system. So steep is the valley that the normally straight Roman road from Winchester to Cirencester makes a long curved detour. This is a very rural part of Hampshire. Traditionally sheep rearing land, farming subsidies has encouraged farmers to grow cereal, despite the meagre chalky soil.
