Description |
Hansi Brand (1912–2000) with Oskar Schindler (1908–1974) in Israel. Hansi Brand and Joel Brand (1906–1964) were members of the Budapest Aid and Rescue Committee, which smuggled Jews out of occupied Europe during the Holocaust. The committee supplied funds for the workers in Schindler's factory in Poland, which he ran as a safe haven for Jews. The Brands moved to Israel after the war and Schindler kept in touch with them. Leo Zahn, Joel Brand's nephew, by email. The photograph was in Hansi Brand's possession. She allowed Zahn to make this copy. Zahn gave permission for that information to be posted here. The photographer is unknown and there is apparently no way to ascertain it. Schindler's partner was also in the photograph, standing to the left of Hansi Brand. There is a black-and-white version of the image on Zahn's website, Picture Palace. |
