Notes The Mars' was a warship of 74 guns, and in 1807 in squally weather she was anchored within sight of Cromer by the then Captain William Lukin. This is one of Cotman's most original compositions. The striking, towering cloud in tones of grey and the pale blue of sky and sea give this watercolour a cool majesty.
