Inscribed note verso "Augustus Frederic Shaine Midshipman R.N. third son of George Augustus Shaine & Ann (nei Erault?) his wife of Shavefield Havant in the country of Hampshires born at Havant 17th November 1820. Entered R.N. in September 1835 on board the "Harrier" - William Hallowell Carew, Esque in command (capt) and died of consumption in the Royal Navy Hospital Malta on October (?) 23rd 1840 aged 20 years.
