Summary

Description

Chart of sexual orientations, showing how the terms "gynephilia" and "androphilia" slice the possibilities of male/female attracted to males/females in different ways than the terms "homosexuality" and "heterosexuality". A "gynephile" is someone attracted to women, and an "androphile" is someone attracted to men.

The interpretation of the chart is that a person who falls into one of the four quadrants of the chart can be called by any of the terms appearing in that quadrant (except that you have to be categorized into both cells in a column to be called "bisexual"). This graphic does not show logical/semantic subset or inclusion relations, and so is not a Venn diagram. The interesting point is that opposition of "gynephile" vs. "androphile" divides the four cells of the chart by rows, while the opposition of "homosexual" vs. "heterosexual" divides the four cells by diagonals.

This diagram image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Gynephilia-androphilia-heterosexual-homosexual orientations diagram.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
