| Description |
English: Gymnospermium albertii (Regel) Takht., family Berberidaceae: an excellent, mature specimen of this curious, little, tuberous-rooted, herbaceous perennial species native to Central Asia - a pot plant being used as part of a Spring display on a raised bench in the futuristic, new Alpine House in Kew Gardens. The exteriors of the flowers have a distinctive coppery sheen characteristic of the young growth of the plant, which fades as it matures. G. albertii was formerly placed in the related genus Leontice, and both Gymnospermium and Leontice have been referred to by the rather comical common name of Lion’s Turnip. |
