Summary

Description
English: A scene from a student protest at Ingraham High School in Seattle, Washington, United States. 14 March 2018 marked exactly one month after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Parkland, Florida, on 14 February 2018, where a 19-year-old former student at Stoneman Douglas School, Nikolas Cruz, carried his legally purchased AR-15 semi-automatic rifle into the school, before pulling a fire alarm and shooting at students and teachers in hallways and their classrooms, killing 14 students, 3 teachers and severely injuring 14 others. He was later arrested and charged with the murders and murder attempts. The massacre sparked instant national mourning and brought nationwide condemnation and criticism of the National Rifle Association and members of the Republican Party by students, Democratic politicians, teachers and parents. On 14 March, students, from across the country marched out of class to denounce the NRA and its campaign donations to Republicans in return for agreements not to support any gun control legislation. The NRA mocked the protests and insulted gun control advocates, while the Republican response was mute, though hard-line conservatives lambasted the students and the Parkland activists; their responses generated heavier condemnation from the students, who vowed to vote out lawmakers who rejected notions of gun control and harm their chances of reelection.
