Summary

Description

1,000 year old Douglas Firs in The Grove of the Patriarchs, Mount Rainier National Park. The placard reads:

In front of you stand two 1000-year-old Douglas-firs. The centers are rotten; only the outer 9-10 inches are solid wood. One has lost its top to the wind; the other's crown is dead. Barely enough foliage remains to provide food to keep these trees alive. Despite these hardships, they survive.
