Summary

Description

The gravestone of Thomas Holroyd (1821–1904). Holroyd was a portrait and landscape painter from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. The gravestone is in Grove Road Cemetery, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, in plot C 836. The high quality of the carving and polish on the monument suggests that it may have been sculpted by Holroyd's colleague William John Seward Webber (1842–1919).

The figured marble makes the inscription almost illegible in the photographs. It says something like:

"In memory of Harry infant son of Thomas and Mary Holroyd of Esplanade House Harrogate who died (30th?) January 1888. Also of James the beloved brother of Thomas Holroyd who died (?) June 1874 aged 49 years. Also of Albert the beloved son of Thomas and Mary Holroyd, who died (9th?) April 1891 in his 19th year. Also the grave of Thomas Holroyd (who died 10 March 1904 aged 82 years).
