Poekilocerus bufonius עברית: כושן ארסי, מדבר יהודה, ישראל.
צבעו של הכושן שחור ועליו כתמים אזהרה צהובים המעידים על ארסיותו. בלוטות הארס ממוקמות בין שני פרקי הגוף הראשונים. בעת סכנה הכושן הארסי מתיז את הריר הארסי למרחק של כמה סנטימטרים. הארס גורם לצריבה חיצונית ולפגיעה במערכת העצבים של הטורף. אורכו 50-100 מילמטרים, מבנה גופו מוארך, ראשו מחודד ועליו זוג מחושים קצרים. הכושן הארסי הוא בעל שלושה זוגות גפיים המתאימים לקפיצה, ושני זוגות כנפיים (האחוריות מקופלות תחת הקדמיות). עיקר תנועתו מתבצעת בעזרת קפיצה וניתור. לכושן זוג עיניים מורכבות וגפי פה נושכות לועסות והוא ניזון מצמחים. |
