Summary

Description
English: Greater coat of arms of the city of Nancy, France.
The thistle was adopted after the defeat of the Duke of Burgundy in 1477. The chief depicts the coat of arms of the Duchy of Lorraine which was granted to the city by Charles III, Duke of Lorraine in 1575. The escutcheon in the centre of the chief depicts the historic arms of Lorraine; the top row of shields from left to right depict the ancient arms of the Kingdom of Hungary, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Jerusalem and Aragon while the bottom row depicts (from left to right) Anjou, Gelre, Jülich and the Duchy of Bar.[1] The coronet is a duke's coronet.[2] The three medals are (from left ot right) the Croix de guerre 1914–1918, Légion d'honneur and the Croix de guerre 1939–1945.
