A River Scene, with a Hut on an Island
1640-5
Oil on oak, 37 x 33 cm
National Gallery London
Bequeathed by Mrs Elizabeth Carstairs, 1952
This work is a companion piece to another painting by van Goyen in the National Gallery's Collection, 'Fishermen hauling a Net'. It is signed on the boat in the foreground, and can probably be dated to the early 1640s.
