A photograph of Transalpina square taken from Nova Gorica train station (Slovenia) showing Gorizia (Italy). The rectangular plant pots in the centre are the international border. People were allowed to freely cross the square between the countries but were not permitted to leave the square from the other side and instead were supposed to walk 100 metres down the road to the proper border controls. Since December 2007 Transalpina square no longer has these restrictions because there are no longer any border controls between Italy and Slovenia.
