English: Marquis (Marcus) Lafayette Gordon (1843-1900). born July 18, 1843 in Waynesburg, PA. Fought with the 85th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (Company G) Earned MD in 1870 at Columbia University’s Medical College. Attended Andover Theological Seminary, ordained in 1871. Married Agnes Donald Gordon, schoolteacher in 1872. They had 4 children. Fanny, Donald, Mary (and Unk infancy death). Gordon served as a medical missionary and then a professor of Theology at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. From 1865-1894 he was Foreign Secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in Japan. In 1898 worked at the Walker Mission Home in Newton, MA. M. Lafayette Gordon died on November 4, 1900.
