DescriptionGloucester eastgate 2 railway station 2035849 327145e5.jpg
English: Gloucester Eastgate Station.
View SW, to Barton St. Crossing and towards Tuffley Junction and Bristol; ex-Midland Birmingham - Gloucester - Bristol main line. Gloucester (Midland, Eastgate in BR days) was on the 1854 Tuffley Loop (Tramway Junction - Tuffley Junction) until 1974-5 when the Loop, this Station and everything was razed to the ground and covered with roads etc., the present new Gloucester Station being the rebuilt former Great Western Station (Central in BR days), opened in December 1975 and became the only - and very awkward - Station, forcing most trains to reverse in Gloucester. On the left, a Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 is arriving with a Down express: beyond it a Midland 0-6-0 stands on the Goods lines; ahead Barton Street Box can be seen on its gantry. (The lady prominent in the foreground was my fiancée!).
