Object history The painting was later purchased from his estate by Isabella Stewart Gardner for $3,000, and Gardner retained the painting for 34 years before giving it to Hunt's daughter for display in the new Hunt Memorial Gallery, named for artist William Morris Hunt, at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. Courtesy of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
