Description
English: Brig. Gen. Nathan F. Twining, Commanding General of the 13th AF at Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides (left) and his Chief of Staff, Col. Glen C. Jamison shortly after rescue by a Navy PBY somewhere in the Coral Sea. Gen. Twining and his combat flight party had been adrift in life rafts in the Coral Sea for six nights and five days after their B-17 plane had been forced down. Their food was composed of chocolate candy, half a sardine per person each second and fifth day, and the partially digested hors d'oeuvre provided by an albatross shot by the General.
