Professionista dal 1934 al 1954; nel 2013 è stato dichiarato giusto tra le nazioni per la sua attività a favore degli Ebrei durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Il Giro d'Italia 1946, ventinovesima edizione della "Corsa Rosa", si svolse in diciassette tappe dal 15 giugno al 7 luglio 1946, per un percorso totale di 3039 km. Fu vinto da Gino Bartali.
