Summary

Description
English: The German Type VIIC submarine U-575 under attack by an aircraft from the U.S. Navy escort carrier USS Bogue (CVE-9), in 48° 18N, 27° 34W, on 13 March 1944. Pilot was Lieutenant junior grade D.A. Pattie. U-575 was sunk by depth charges from USS Haverfield (DE-393), USS Hobson (DD-464) and HMCS Prince Rupert (K324) and by depth bombs from RAF Costal Command Wellington and Fortress aircraft of No. 172, 206 and 220 Squadrons and a General Motors TBM Avenger of Composite Squadron 95 (VC-95) from USS Bogue. 18 crewmen of U-575 died, 37 ssurvived.
A depth bomb from VC-95 explodes off the starboard bow, 20mm gunfire splashes from HMCS Prince Rupert are visible to port.
