English: Georgette Chen, Self Portrait, c. 1946, Oil on canvas, Collection of National Gallery Singapore. "Stoic and composed with warm sepia tones, the self-portrait is executed with succint contours and subtle brushwork. Chen gazes at the viewer with a sense of detachment and dignity. This portrait is significant because of when it was made: immediately after World War II, when the artist's beloved husband Eugene had passed away from a prolonged illness whilst the couple was under house arrest in Shanghai."
