Description
English: Artist's reconstruction of an event in the First Battle of the Aisne, in France in 1914. Private George Wilson VC (29 April 1886 – 22 April 1926) of the 2nd Battalion, The Highland Light Infantry, British Army, is pictured capturing an enemy machine gun, an action for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross.

Original caption:

PRIVATE GEORGE WILSON, HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY.
Awarded the V.C. for gallantry on September 14, 1914, near Verneuil. He attacked a hostile machine-gun, accompanied by only one man. When the latter was killed, he shot the officer and six men working on the gun, which he captured.
