Stewart) CKA 372 Exhibition history 1833 London, Queen's Bazaar, Oxford Street, "Mr Mathews's Gallery of Theatrical Portraits" (49) Literature William Dunlap, "Memoirs of Cooke" (1813), II, 185-86; Laurence Park, "Gilbert Stuart" (1926), I, 236-37 A mature Cooke wears a dark blue velvet jacket with traces of powder on the shoulders.

This portrait was painted in Boston for Price, the New York theatre manager, and finished on 6 January 1811. Patmore calls it "The last portrait for which he ever sat, painted in America."
