Summary

Description
English: Geopinus incrassatus (Dejean). This species is a good illustration of the fact that overall morphological similarity is not always a good indicator of close relationship. It was described by Dejean in the genus Daptus which currently includes five species in the Palaearctic Region. John Lawrence LeConte recognized its distinctness and proposed a new genus for it but still most taxonomists interested in harpalines thought it was closely related to daptines. However, several small structural details of the adults and larvae suggest that the species is simply an aberrant member of the genus Anisodactylus and is not closely related to daptines.
