English: High magnification micrograph of a gangliocytic paraganglioma, abbreviated GP. Duodenum. H&E stain.

GPs consist of three components:[1]

  1. Epithelioid cells - neuroendocrine-like:
    • Typically nested architecture.
    • Stippled chromatin, no nucleolus.
  2. Spindle cells - schwannoma-like:
    • Spindle-shaped nuclei.
    • Moderate bubbly cytoplasm.
  3. Ganglion cells:
    • Large cells with round large nuclei with prominent nucleoli.

  • Very high mag.
    Very high mag.
  • Intermed. mag.
