THE GENERAL POST OFFICE, LONDON.

The great building in St. Martins-le-Grand, of which our illustration shows us a portion, is the centre of the largest game of "General Post " that ever was played in the world. "Post goes from London to------------." The place to which the post does not go from London has yet to be discovered. 1,893,000,000 letters. 336,500,000 postcards. 697,900,000 book packets, and 150,600,000 newspapers represent a single year's transactions of the British Post Office, and of these enormous totals a very large portion pass through the G P.O. The Post Office is still under the direct orders of the Crown. The Postmaster General, unlike other Ministers, issues his "commands." The scarlet of the Royal Livery is the uniform of the servants of the Department,
